Intuitive Surgical was founded in 1995 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. They developed the revolutionary da Vinci® system to assist surgeons in minimally-invasive robotic surgery. In 2003, they merged with rival Computer Motion and subsequently grew at an unprecedented rate. Today, they remain a gold standard in the industry and the global leader in robotic-assisted minimally-invasive surgery.
IT Operations director David Loudermilk knew he needed to streamline IT processes, specifically user creation account and setup maintenance, so that technicians could focus on the tasks they’d been hired for. In order to do this, Mr. Loudermilk looked into the options available to find a solution that fit the company’s immediate needs: automate repetitive processes and free up technician time.
The Challenge
Intuitive Surgical was wasting time and resources to resolve problems that could be handled more efficiently. Specifically, they wanted to improve the company’s password-related account maintenance. Account-related inquiries were taking technicians away from other tasks and wasting time and resources.
The Solution
Intuitive Surgical originally chose to implement Avatier’s Password Management, and the quick and easy rollout fit the company’s initial needs so much that the team ultimately decided to implement the entire Avatier Identity and Access Management Suite (AIMS). Within only a few days, Mr. Loudermilk knew that he had made the right decision.
Benefits
Avatier offered a quick deployment time frame for a solution that was simple to install and support; it only took three or four days to get it into the system and up and running. After installation, getting started with AIMS was just as simple as the initial installation. The automation for password resets and account setups (provisioning and de-provisioning) created a huge time savings and allowed Intuitive Surgical to focus their attention on tasks with more priority.
